Adding friends on Discord is a great way to connect with fellow gamers and enthusiasts. There are two ways on adding friends on Discord. You can directly add them by looking up their username plus their tag. This will directly send them a friend request that will appear on the friend request tab on their end. The second one is to add friend from a Discord server. You can right click on their name and then click on Add Friend.

Using Desktop App on Mac/Windows PC?

Method-1: Add Friend from a Server

First and foremost, you need to join a Discord server before you can start chatting with people. Once you've joined a server, you'll be able to start chatting with people right away. You can also add them as friends using this method below.

Step 1. Open your Discord App

Open your Discord application thru browser or on the Desktop application. Both offers the same way on how to add friends on Discord. Make sure that you've installed the latest version of the application.

Step 2. Go to a Server

Go to the server that you might want to add some friends on. You can do this by looking at the servers you're currently in. For this instance, I will be using our test server, GoLinuxCloud Test Server and will be looking to add a user from that server.

Step 3. Look for Friends

You can see on the right side of the server that there is a list of members that are currently in the server. You can send them a friend request by clicking on their profile. and click "View Profile".

Step 4. Send Friend Request

After clicking on View Profile, you will now see the details that the user shares with other users. You will see a button "Send Friend Request" if you want to add this specific user.

You have now added a specific user from a Discord server. They will get notified with your friend request once they logged in or they checked their notification.

Method-2: Add Friend Directly

If you know your friend's Discord username and Discord tag, you can add them directly by searching. Discord will automatically send the friend request on their end once you have put their Discord username and tag.

Step 1. Open your Discord app

Step 2. Click on Friends

Upon opening Discord, you will see your Direct Messages list, on the upper left side, you will also see the "Friends", this will show you all your Friends' List.

Step 3. Add Friend

You will now see all your Friends on Discord. You will also have the option to see all your Pending friend request and Blocked users. Click on "Add Friend".

Step 4. Send the Friend Request

Put in your friend's Username and Discord tag. It should be along with the "#" sign. Please note that adding using friend's username is case sensitive.

You have now successfully added your friend by searching their Discord Username and Discord Tag. They will get notified with your friend request once they logged in or they checked their notification.
