Have you ever wanted to listen to music without leaving your Discord app before? I'm sure you already did. Discord has quickly become one of the most popular platforms for online gaming and communication, with millions of users around the world. And one of the best things about Discord is that you can easily listen to music with friends while you're gaming or chatting. There are a few different ways to listen to music on Discord. You can either use Discord's built-in music player, which lets you play music from your computer, or you can use a third-party music player like Spotify or Apple Music.
In this article, we will guide you on how to set-up one of the widely used music bot on Discord, the FredBoat.
Inviting FredBoat to your Discord Server
FredBoat is a Discord bot that lets you play high quality music in your Discord server for free. It can play music from Soundcloud, Bandcamp, direct links, Twitch. Yes, it also supports playlists and livestreams! Instead of linking directly to a track, you can also choose to simply just type in the name of your song and let FredBoat find it for you. FredBoat has full support for shuffling your playlist. You can even choose to put just one or the entire queue on repeat.
Step 1. Visit FredBoat's Official Website
You can visit the bot's official site. Make sure that you're using the official link since there are a lot of bots with the same or almost the same name with this bot. Then click on "Invite to Server".
Step 2. Select your Discord server
You need to select the server that you want the bot in (You should have Administrative permissions to do this). For this instance, I will be adding the bot on a server that I own. Click on "Continue".
Step 3. Authorize the Bot
You will then be asked to give permissions to the bot. Don't worry, you can change these permissions later. Click on "Authorize".
Step 4. Complete the Captcha challenge
You will be then asked to complete a Captcha. Put a check on the box and finish the challenge to prove that you are not a robot.
Step 5. Login with your Discord account.
After completing those steps, you will be redirected on the Dashboard. You will be asked to login via Discord. Click on "Login with Discord".
Step 6. Authorize the Bot for Dashboard
You will be prompted with an authorization permission again. This time, this is for the Dashboard access. Click on "Authorize".
Step 7. Enter Music Room
You will then be redirected to the list of server that you are in that are using FredBoat. You will have to select the server that you have initially chose to add FredBoat. I will be choosing Chronos Guild, click on "Go to Music Room".
Step 8. Music Room Dashboard
Once you are in the music room, you will see all your servers that has FredBoat on the left side and the music that are currently playing. Since you haven't added any music to play and you aren't currently joining a voice channel, it will have this message: "Please go to discord and join the voice channel".
Step 9: Verify
Upon opening your Discord app or web, you will see that you have successfully added FredBoat and that it's ready to use.

Playing music using Discord commands
Step 1. Join a Voice channel
You have to join a voice channel in order to access the music from FredBoat. To do this, just click on your desired voice channel, in this instance, I'm joining General voice channel. You also need to have a channel dedicated to sending bot commands for the FredBoat, for this instance, I named the channel #music-commands.
Step 2. Run the command
Run command /play + the link or query. You can also search for your desired music. For this instance I will look for the song "Money Rain".
Your command should like like this, the press Enter.
After that, you will be given the list of songs that are related to your search, you can choose what to play on the buttons below. They are numbered according to their respective significance to your search.
Step 3. Listen and Enjoy!
After selecting the music that you want, you will be prompted that your music has been added to the queue. If there are no music in the queue, your music choice will automatically play.
You can also check the music that are in the queue using the Music Room that we have accessed earlier.
And voila! Enjoy your music as you chill in your Discord server.
Playing the music using Music Room
Another way to access or add music to the queue is by accessing the Music Room. You can do this by heading back to FredBoat's official site and clicking on the Music Room as we have done earlier.
Step 1. Join a voice channel
Like we did earlier, we need to join a voice channel in order to listen to Fredboat's music. But for this instance, instead of using a channel to send commands on, we will be using the Search function on the Music Room
Step 2. Music Room's Search Function
Head back to the Music Room and at the left side of the screen you will see the Search function. Click on it.
Step 3. Look for your desired music
After clicking Search, you will see that there is a search bar. Look up for a music that you desire to play. Then press Enter or the magnifying glass beside the search bar.
Step 4. Choose the Music
You will then be shown the list of the music related to your search. You need to click the plus (+) button beside the music to add it to your queue.
Step 5. Listen and Enjoy!
After selecting the music that you want, you will be prompted that your music has been added to the queue. If there are no music in the queue, your music choice will automatically play.
And there you have it, a fully running music bot for your Discord server!
