If you're a gamer, you're probably familiar with Discord. It's a voice and text chat app designed for gamers that lets you easily find, join, and chat with friends. It's free, and it works on both your desktop and phone. One of the great things about Discord is that it's easy to share audio with your friends. There are two ways to share audio in Discord. One way is to send an audio file and another way is to stream your music on Discord.
In this article, we will show you how to share your audio on Discord.
Two Ways of Audio Sharing on Discord
You can either be sending an audio from a recording or just a random song that you've recorded yourself. This feature allows you to share anything that you want the other person or community member to hear on their side.
There are two ways of sharing audio on discord, they are:
- Audio File - you will be sending the file itself on the text channel and the members of the community which has access to that specific channel can access and play the audio that you've sent
- Audio Streaming - you will be sharing your screen with the community and let them listen to what you're listening. You need to join a voice chat channel to start streaming your audio.
To further explain these ways, here are the steps on sharing audio on Discord:
Step 1. Choose your file
Yopu have to choose a file that is already on your PC that you want to share. For this instance, I have downloaded a song that I would share on Discord as an audio file.
Step 2. Select your Server
Opne your Discord app and select the Server that you want to send the audio file on. In this example, I have selected to send the audio file in my server named "Chronos Guild".
Step 3. Select the channel
After selecting the Discord server that you want to send the audio in, you have to select a channel that you want to send the audio file. Note that you should have permissions to send the audio file.
I will be sending my audio file on the general channel.
Step 4. Upload your audio file
Upon entering the channel, you will see a plus (+) sign beside the chat box. You need to click on this and it will show you a menu. Click on "Upload a File".
A pop up window will appear and you have to select the audio that you want to share. You need to know the directory of the file for you to find it easily. As for mine, it is on my "Downloads" folder. Click on "Open".
Step 5. Sending the File
Once you open the file, it would not be automatically sent. You can still edit the file or send a message along with it. You will also have the option to put a spoiler tag on the file, modify the attachment or delete it if you sent the wrong file. Another thing is that you can also send a message along with the file but this is optional, you can send the file as is.
Step 6. Checking the File
Upon sending the message along with the file, you will see that a play button will appear along with the minutes of the audio file and the file name that you've sent. You can also see that the members of the community which has access to the channel can also download the audio file.
Step 1. Select your audio on Discord
Open your Discord application or web browser. You have to select on which source you want to get the audio from. You can either choose from the files that you already have on your desktop or some external sources like YouTube. For this instance, we will be using YouTube.
Step 2. Choose the Server
Go back to your Discord app and choose that server that you want to stream the music on.
Step 3. Select a Voice Channel
You have to enter a voice channel to be able to stream your music. Everyone that joins the voice channel will be able to listen to the music that you're sharing. For this instance, we will be using the "General" voice channel.
Make sure that you are connected by checking the lower left side of the screen. It should say "Voice Connected" along with the name of the server and the voice channel that you're in
Step 4. Click on Share Screen
After checking if you're connected, you can now start by clicking share screen that is also located on the lower left part of the screen above your username.
Step 5. Select what you share
You have to select from "Applications" and "Screens" tab on which you want to stream with. Since I'll be streaming using youtube which is on the browser, I'll be selecting the Google Chrome application that my YouTube is on.
Step 6. Stream Settings
You have to adjust the settings according to your needs, but for this example, we only need to share audio so you can go with lower resolution and frame rates. Click on "Go Live".
Step 7. Start your Stream
You can now play the music because you are now live and everyone who joins your stream will be able to listen to the audio that you're playing. You will see another screen for the application that you're sharing.
Step 8. Ending your Stream
You can end the stream by directly leaving the voice chat channel or clicking the Disconnect button.
Here's how you can directly leave the voice channel.
Here's the Disconnect button below the stream.
There you go! You can now use these two ways to share your audio on Discord!

There are two ways on sharing audio in discord, by using and sending an audio file and by streaming. Whichever you choose to share your audio, both are easy to use. People mostly use this to hangout and chill in the server or sometimes, sharing some audio that they did. In the future, if you want to send an audio, maybe a music that you created or a poem that you've recited, use this feature! Your audio sharing would be easier.
